There are many issues and questions about the economy that might spark the student's curiosity. Why are jobs easy to find in some years and hard to find in other years? Why do many Filipinos work abroad? What are the consequences of such decisions? What are the implications of having a deficit in the budget? Or of having a balanced budget? What makes money money? What is the basis of trade? While a course in Economics will hopefully make the students more astute participants in the economy, the authors also would like to stress that Economics is just one way of knowing, among the many other ways available to man. Economics may not always provide the answer, but the rigor of the discipline and its methodology will certainly make for an informed opinion and decision.
