Total quality management - 9th ed. - Singapore Cengage LEarning asia 2014 - xxi, 697 p. Includes index

Continuous and breakthrough improvement are two of the most important concepts in quality. With each new edition of this book, we practice continuous improvement by updating the content to reflect current trends and practices in quality management and performance excellence approaches. Every so often, however, some breakthrough improvement is needed. While this edition contains the same essential content as previ-ous editions, we have made substantial changes in the organization and presentation of the material. In reflecting on the title Managing for Quality and (emphasis added) Per-formance Excellence, along with current quality initiatives in many organizations to get back to the basics, we came to the conclusion that students and future managers need a solid foundation in the principles of quality management before they can fully appreciate the concept of performance excellence from an organizational perspective (Le. the Bal-drige Criteria). Thus, we have reorganized the material to focus on three main concepts: the foundation principles of quality management; tools and techniques to drive and sup-port design, control, and improvement of quality; followed by an organizational view of performance excellence as reflected by the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria. Along with this reorganization, we have made numerous pedagogical improvements by streamlining much of the content, removing dated material, adding new and current perspectives, clearly illustrating numerical examples, and strengthening the use of Excel for numerical calculations. And Cengage Learning has designed a new look and format!
